  • From alan on Lady Buffs/ West Texas A&M

Starting to read and enjoy your new blog additions from your Texas visit….point to note….the team is actually called the Lady Buffs…..as I don’t recall anyone ever calling them the buffaloes. You hit some great weather while you were here…yesterday was cold and very windy and today is cloudy and rainy!

This must be one of the posts you have worked on? Didn’t have any idea how long pelicans lived…sort of like dogs I guess?

    • From Scott Lafon on Polo and Juanito

This was an interesting side trip. The pelican’s are quite odd and ungainly. Polo wasn’t exactly sure how old Juanito was, but he was part of his family, for sure. There are always better ways to say things.

  • From alan on Pickleball Classic

Although I didn’t try pickleball I wish I was still in Arizona….for it snowed here last night! Alas, I came home a couple of weeks too early! Have to remember that next winter…..right now I’m thinking of leaving Texas around the 1st of December and not returning until the 1st of March!!! Lol

Any foreign trip you make it home from is a good one these days! Exploring Uruguay through your eyes and pen has been very enjoyable so thanks for all the posts and pictures and insights into a part of the world I will probably see no other way!

I’ve really enjoyed your new blog site Scott and looked forward each day to see where you were and what you were seeing. And you’ve saved me a lot of money by me not having to go to Uruguay myself and seeing it in person. The pictures are a nice plus so we can see some of the things you write about! Will this trip remain on-line and available for eternity…..or will it disappear into cyber-space?

thanks for following. Mazatlan looks to be favorable. It will be a short trip but probably have as many interesting sights as this trip. We need to check – I have heard there are Aztec ruins somewhere near Mazatlan that would make a good day trip into the past.

If we have a national theatric (perhaps the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC), I bet there is no Nativity scene. It wouldn’t be politically correct.

It seems that way, Pat. Trees are up here but I haven’t heard a lot of Jingle Bells yet. That is a song for the ages and Santa is the MAN.

It is great. Have been a little food deprived the last month so this is like going to heaven. The food is less expensive and more to my liking, and the buffet makes the hotel cost even a better deal. You can go all day on this meal and it gets you ready for tours or whatever you want to do.

I don’t know about going all day on a big delicious breakfast…but it would sure get me thru till noon! Are you still getting up very early when nothing is open…or have you gotten more in sync with normal people?
        2014/12/07 at 4:20 pm
        • From Scott Lafon on Eating for Eatings Sake

no, doing much better with my time clock. leaving tomorrow at ten thirty so I will have breakfast here ,and then get a taxi to the airport. I do get up by seven though and you would be surprised how few people are awake and active then. Looking forward to Mazatlan in January. That and Arizona will be a shorter trip for me. I need to take a break from my break.

Now I know it’s time for you to come home! Although I will admit that you’ve done another thing that I have never done…taken a shot of water to the chest trying to figure out that strange porcelain appliance! Wow … big river! This might even be larger than the Rio Grande! The Dorados I’m familiar with (and sent the video link to) are salt water fish. Is there a fresh water variety in Uruguay?

Absolutely crazy about his artwork. The house made my hands itchy, wanted to get out and mix up some mortar. The disposable picture with the curving shirt and reflected color was great. I also am dealing with weeds. Before I give up gardening altogether, I built a border around the plot.A line in the sand so to speak, my space, my rules, my kingdom.

Suggested viewing … watch the movie “Alive” about an Uruguayan soccer or rugby team, on the way to a match in Chile, whose plane crashed in the Andes in the 1970s. I’m not sure of the length of these survivors’ ordeal but it was longer than sixteen days.

At first glance I thought this pic was of you! It sounds like you’re doing what I used to in mexico..i.e. go out walking and talk to the natives! Lol. In fact, I had a regular route and enjoyed trying out my Spanish and the Mexicans enjoyed practicing their english. Can’t even estimate how many hours I spent sitting with Tomas by the San Carlos marina gas docks chatting while he waited for boats to pull up! I especially like your posts with pictures of people! I remember when we were kids we thought having pictures with people in them…ruined them…..but now I realize that having people in pictures really makes them better! Keep your posts coming…..I loOK forward to see where you’ve been each day!
