Two popular pastimes in San Pedro Town are Karaoke and Drinking.
Since bars open early and close late, there is always a lot of drinking going on. Likewise, when karaoke starts and participants pick up a microphone, the singing, good, bad, and ugly, picks up like an afternoon squall.
There is an undercurrent here where what you think you hear is not always what you hear, what you see is not always as you see it, what you assume is often erroneous, what you plan goes astray. Poker cards in the hole are held closely and opportunities to leap without looking are always at hand. There are Spanish gold doubloons in a shipwreck out on the reef and all it takes to get them is a hundred thousand of your money.
Wade, owner of Road Kill Bar, is painting this morning and his orange Karaoke sign advertises fun.
Karaoke is a sign of our times where audience participation is the real star of the show.
Make Believe is definitely more fun than not.

When we went there, we were on the mainland for a short while. I think our cruise ship stopped there. We took a cab inland too see a zoo of all things. Sounds like it might be similar. If I remember, prostitution is legal there, which no doubt compounds the aids problem.
Cruise ships go into Belize City and passengers take small boats to the docks for day trips. Ambergris Caye and San Pedro Town are to the north and east of Belize city – either a twenty minute plane flight or an hour and a half water taxi.
Got a kick out of your comments on the two most popular pastimes down there on the island because it reminded me of an older lady I met who owned a house in San Carlos Mexico…who reportedly told a friend of mine that she loved San Carlos because she could drink all she wanted and her kids couldn’t do anything about it! She also smoked like a chimney as I recall. …but she lived out her years enjoying herself and I guess I thought more power to her! Life is full of personal choices and consequences and if that was her choice….go for it! Lol
